Coming up in Episode 14 – Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies (Wii)

Episode 14 of the show will feature the spectacular Wii title from Treasure, and sequel to the Japan only N64 game, Sin & Punishment. Here in Europe, we know this game as Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies, but in the US it was released as Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, and in Japan it was called Sin and Punishment: Sora no Kōkeisha (Successor of the Universe).

Quite why they felt they needed three different, but very similar names, I have no idea as it adds much confusion and makes the game very complicated to introduce in a blog post.

The game was released for the Nintendo Wii in October 2009 in Japan, May 2010 in Europe and June in the US, and it was later ported to the Wii U eShop in 2015. The original version can still be picked up very cheaply at around £10 boxed.

This belongs to the criminally small genre of the rail shooter and makes full use of the Wii remote, allowing you to point it directly at the enemies on screen to shoot them down, while a camera sweeps smoothly around hectic futuristic levels, constantly throwing obstacles and projectiles at you that can be dodged with the nunchuck – brilliant!

It’s a perfect arcade-y action game that I picked up some years ago and had tremendous fun with, but life intervened and left my save file only half complete. Finally, I’m looking forward to picking up where I left off as we play this great sequel in our next book club! Look forward to hearing all about it as Tibbs and I discuss in episode 14, around the end of June.
